Savings & Investments

Savings accounts from different banks side by side, matched to your goal and your horizon.

We can offer you a range of savings accounts from different banks. Ask us about the possibilities.

First the goal, then the account

The question is rarely which bank pays the highest interest. The question is what your money is for, and when you need to be able to reach it. Everything else follows from that.

  • A buffer for the unexpected. A broken washing machine, a car that gives up, a month with less income. This money has to be there tomorrow, so it sits in an ordinary savings account.
  • Money for a plan within a few years. A renovation, a car, your child's education. Also savings: with a short horizon you have no time to sit out a bad market.
  • Money you can miss for a long time. Ten years or more, and you do not need it to live on. Then investing is a serious option, with the caveat that the value can drop considerably along the way.

What really separates saving from investing

Saving is predictable: you know what you put in and you can always reach it. What you do not know is what it will be worth in ten years, because inflation nibbles away at it. Investing returns more on average over a long period, but there is no guarantee and the road is bumpy. Whoever has to sell at the wrong moment, loses.

There is no right or wrong between the two. There is only a split that fits how much time you have, and how much swing you can take without losing sleep. That last question is not a soft one: it is the most important.

Tax on your capital

Savings and investments fall in Box 3 of the Dutch tax system. The tax office does not look at what you actually earned, but assumes a fixed percentage per type of asset. For 2026 that is 6.00% for investments and 1.28% for savings; you pay 36% tax on that assumed return. You only pay above the tax-free capital allowance of € 59,357 per person, or € 118,714 if you have a tax partner.

For savers with an ordinary buffer, little usually changes. Once your capital grows or you start investing, it does start to count. Then it is worth looking at how you divide it.

What we do for you

  • We map out what your money is for and when you will need it.
  • We compare savings accounts from different banks.
  • If you are looking for more than saving, we discuss honestly what investing can and cannot do, including what happens when it goes against you.
  • And we look at the whole picture: sometimes repaying part of your mortgage is wiser than saving, and we will say so.
